My favorite things and another cute line...

I turned on a Christmas cd during dinner and when one of Ava's favorite songs came on (Come on Ring Those Bells) she said, "My heart is dancing from this song!". Tell me, what's your favorite Christmas song? Mine is Silver Bells.
The above image is the one I have saved as my desktop background right now. I just think it is simple and festive. You can find it here. There are others available too. I'm just sharing my favorite.
I've decided to share some of my "favorite things" from now til Christmas. They will be random. They will most likely be inexpensive...I am a tightwad when it comes to money. So feel free to share some of your random favorite things with me the next few weeks as well. Especially if they are a good deal. =)

I've been listening to Christmas music for about 2 weeks now.
I love Amy Grant's rendition of "Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire". Our family all looks forward to one special treat we make at Christmas, chocolate covered pretzels which we usually give away to all the wonderful teachers at school. Something about the sweet n' salty! Yummy!!!

The Little Drummer Boy...heard the guy, Josh Whatizname, singing it on Oprah the other day. Loved his rendition. Target is advertising his Christmas cd these days!

My favorite is Brenda Lee singing "Rocking Around the Christmas Tree"...my Dad plays it every year when we are at their house for Thanksgiving..some years I even call him and have him play it for me. Such a great tradition. :)

My favorite classic Christmas song is "Oh, Holy Night" especially when sung at night, when only the white twinkle lights on the tree are lit, or during a Christmas Eve candlelight service. My favorite newer song is Point of Grace in "Not that Far From Bethlehem" because it tells us that the Christmas story is just as relevant today as it was thousands of years ago.

It would be easier to say what my least favorite Christmas songs are, I love them all! Little Drummer Boy, The First Noel, Silver Bells, the Barenaked Ladies Christmas cd, Father Christmas by Greg Palmer, Song For A Winter's Night by Sarah Maclachlan, the horribly sad Cat Carol, Vince Guaraldi's Peanuts soundtrack. Love it all!

I love the soundtrack to the Nutcracker best. And Johnny Mathis' Christmas album is a close second.

When I lived in Japan as an exchange student, the family I stayed with during Christmas was very dear, but not familiar with what Christmas was all about. In a mishmash of English and rudimentary Japanese and lots of dictionaries, I explained Christmas using The Little Drummer Boy. On Christmas morning my host father - whose singing was divine but English was terrible - sang it to me.

My favorite treat this time of year is graham crackers with peanutbutter and a cup of hot cocoa - that is what we used to have as a snack when we came in out of the snow or after skating on the pond.

**"Silent Night" is my favorite, I sang it to my son at bedtime year-round when he was little. I also like "Walkin' in a Winter Wonderland" off the Kohl's 2006 Christmas cd.
**I like to go to the library and check out some Christmas crafts books (like Gooseberry Patch) and look at the things to make and different ways to decorate - it's FREE!
**Thanks for the link - I chose Partridge (red).

Another favorite, this one's new to me--Jim Brickman. LOVE his new Christmas cd called Homecoming. It's beautiful. As for "favorite things"--for this time of year, I like to fill apothecary (sp?) jars and tall vases with fresh cranberries. Then I put tealights and random-sized candles (white preferably!) inside among the cranberries. It looks so beautiful lit up, and the cranberries are inexpensive this time of year.
