Simple truths...

"All change begins with thinking."
I heard this quote today (in regards to personal enrichment/spiritual growth) and just wanted it to sink in a little bit more. I love when truth is so simple. I'm just trying to figure out why it can be so hard sometimes.
Here's one more that I heard a couple of days ago. Yet true none-the-less.
"There is no such thing as a happy selfish person."
Think about that.
Then leave me any great quotes or profound statements you've heard recently. I love a good, thoughtful quote. It may even end up on a scrap page. I've got a little idea spinning in my head. One of these days my great ideas are gonna make it from there to the page. =)

So, I saw a quote the other day, and I had to use it for a little home decore project. I don't know the author.

"Let the ones you love become your escape from reality"

Now, how great is that!!!

I think this is a great one!

Life is good when you can see it through eyes that seek simple pleasures...and a heart that is in tune with what you were created for...and for whom you were created.

Well said, Jody.

Jody how funny that I posted a quote today on my blog. And if I had scrapbooks for every idea I have in my head...I would be caught up (lol).

Speak your mind even if your voice shakes- Maggie Kuhm; This is my husband's favorite quote. I use it as a mantra to help me be more assertive in life and faith.

Thinking of you as you juggle work and family (HUGE struggle in this little house).

Comparison destroys contentment. I use this ALOT. I don't know where it came from. I think I heard it on TV one day.

Heard this recently that I really liked:

"Frustration is when we wear ourselves out doing God's work."

This is one that I love:

Children are the hands by which we take hold of heaven.

"you have to believe in yourself before anyone else will"

I tell myself that all the time... it helps my confidence (which I often lack).

Beth Moore said this to her daughter in light of their family being followers of Christ:

Mediocracy is not your legacy.

Well said, Beth!

Here are a handful of my favorites:

"Faith is not belief without proof, but trust without reservation."
--D. Elton Trueblood

"If we discover a desire within us that nothing in this world can satisfy, we should begin to wonder if perhaps we were created for another world." (i.e., Heaven)
--C.S. Lewis

"Charm can mislead, and beauty soon fades. The woman to be admired & praised is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-GOD."
--Proverbs 31:30

"We are shaped by whom we choose to follow."
--Author unknown

"When we serve others, we more fully reflect the image of God, and our hearts begin to resonate with the heart of God."
--Erwin McManus

"Galileo. DaVinci. William Shakespeare. Martin Luther. John the Baptist. These are the strange ones who challenged society with a different way of thinking. They were the rebels and heretics of their day. But if history is told correctly, no man has caused the worldwide stir that Jesus Christ did 2000 years ago. So many people today portray Jesus as weak, the out-of-date artifact hanging on a church wall or in a stained-glass window hoping for a brighter day. But Jesus was the non-conformist of all time. He took the conventions of religion, tradition, and love and turned them upside down. He faced the political and religious leaders of His day and spoke truths they had never heard before. He walked in our world as the human voice of God."
--Toby McKeehan

"The Bible was inscribed over a period of 2000 years, in times of war and in days of peace -- by kings, physicians, tax collectors, farmers, fisherman, singers and shepherds. The marvel is that a library so perfectly cohesive could have been produced by such a diverse crowd over a period of time which staggers the imagination. Jesus is its grand subject -- our good is designed and the glory of God is its end."
--Tony Nolan

I am so loving all of these quotes. I just read this one in a book called "The Solace of Leaving Early" by Haven Kimmel (such a good author) and while it might not resonate with everyone, I thought it was great:

"It is the nature of the world that we miss the moment our fate changes, but can recall it later with perfect clarity."

(not to wax poetic, but I think this can be a commentary about how we just live, we don't pay attention to the moments)

And another one that I like (that's not too serious) is by Rita Rudner:

"I love being married, it's so nice to find that one special person you can annoy for the rest of your life."

I don't have a quote....Just came on here to say that I saw the article about the GH Golf Club on GH Tribune online. :) Anyway, I didn't realize they were doing all of these modifications....It's been a long time since I golfed there. A high school meet.

Anyway, hope you saw the article too...

I couldn't think of anything profound, but a quote that I go back to often is this:

"A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove...but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child."

Life isn't waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain.

This is a HUGE one for me at the moment - Thank you Lord that you are helping me to dance in the rain.

That is a great quote. I'll try to come up with some to share with you! Also, I appreciated your reminder about having an outlet...you're right, we all need that. Scrapbooking is also my outlet, but I haven't been able to do anything with it for a few months as we have our house on the market. All my scrappy stuff is being stored at my parents' home and I can't wait to use it again! Have a blessed day. :)

of course...right after I posted, I thought of a great verse that has always been an inspiration to me...quoting the Bible :)

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path."
- Proverbs 3:5-6 -

That verse has helped me through some good and some bad times...sometimes I just repeat it over and over and over until I finally start believing it.

May it be an encouragement to you too!

One of my favorites: “The aim of life is to live, and to live means to be aware, joyously, drunkenly, serenely, divinely aware.” Henry Miller (American writer). I love this quote because it reminds me to live consciously & notice little moments or truly be in the moment(not rushing through the days in a blur blindly). It also makes me feel calm somehow. I think by drunkenly, he doesn't mean the liquor-type of drunk! But, rather, drunk on love, life, etc. Miller has a few other good ones:
“It's good to be just plain happy, it's a little better to know that you're happy; but to understand that you're happy and to know why and how and still be happy, be happy in the being and the knowing, well that is beyond happiness, that is bliss.”
“If there is to be any peace, it will come through being, not having”
“The moment one gives close attention to any thing, even a blade of grass it becomes a mysterious, awesome, indescribably magnificent world in itself.”
“The only thing we never get enough of is love; and the only thing we never give enough of is love”

Oh, Jody!
I have a favorite quote! I made it into a scrapbook page and slipped it into the front of the viewbinder that I use as a family calendar.
It helps me stay focused and grounded. It helps me decide what to do next. It guides me to do what is important and not just urgent.
The quote is:
You can use your TIME any way you want... but you can only use it ONCE"

Whisper it. Yell it. Say it with drama. No matter how I say it, it speaks volumes to me.
