Speaking of laughing or crying...

A little someone cut her bangs behind a locked bathroom door this morning. I just knew it was too quiet for too long in there. Just when you start feeling capable at parenting, another challenge always seems to come along.
I remember writing in my journal after one particularly tough day with Teagan and Brock that "motherhood is a series of connected emotional highs and lows", and when a day ends on a high note you feel really great/qualified as a parent. On the otherhand, when you tuck in tired, crabby kids you feel like a failure at something that should come naturally and you can literally find yourself in tears over little, insignificant stuff!
Thankfully, I've been through years of highs and lows and they don't shake me like they once did. I find that now I just grab the camera to document them as they unfold. =) The laughter on the grassy hill and the pout after a scolding from cutting hair. It's still a series of connected highs and lows. And not a day goes by that I don't thank God for allowing me to be in the middle of it all.

I think every child does this...I know I did. I had lovely shoulder length hair..much like your daughters and one day decided to cut it...ALL of it! It was an un-even and very short. I was quite proud of what I'd done and earnestly showed my mom. I still remember the spanking I got all these years later. She said my dad asked her if she couldn't do something about it because he didn't want to take me out in public until it looked "decent". She took me to a stylist who evened it out the best she could and then gave me a Tonette (I'm showing my age now because they don't have that type of thing anymore). For those who don't know a Tonette was a child's version of a Toni (which was a home permenant). I think they took ONE picture of me with my new "look".

I love your perspective. . . and the authentic way you share your faith in everyday moments. I am glad I stumbled upon your blog tonight.

c'mon Jody, Hannah Montana has bangs, of course she needs them too! At least she didn't blame it on one of the other kids:)

I've done it, my son has done it to someone else, and now my daughter, even shaped up her eyebrows while she was at it!!! Quite a sight!

Now I'm sure our youngest will have his own tale to tell!

Oh my. I cannot tell you how many stories I have heard this week about kids cutting their own hair!
Mine is one of them!
Oh, the joys we experience with our little ones...God is SO good.
I think I'll go cut my own hair!

I'm sure they all do this. My niece cut her hair just before she was to be a flowergirl!!

At first glance, I thought "Hey, she did a really good job getting in-style, side swiped, choppy bangs"... then I noticed the enormous chunk of long hair laying on the counter and realized that it may look like half of her hair is missing from that side.
She's still beautiful, and it will make for a great scrapbook page!
At least she didn't tell you it was Barbie's hair! That's what my daughter did at 2 and the Barbies were in a box at the time!!!
Love it!

I think that kids cutting their own hair is one of the funniest moments in life. I'm laughing with you, Jody.

I did this once, but I was in high school. And I cut them so short that they stuck straight out from my forehead. I tried to use mousse and gel to paste them down to my forehead, but as soon as they would dry they would stick straight out again. Clearly this was one of my most embarrassing moments, and at such a crucial age!

That being said, she looks darling, and I know it could have been a lot worse. At least you don't have HIV!!!

(she may have a future in hair design!)

Have a great week!

Oh my goodness, that is hilarious! And now you've documented it so you can talk about it later. I once cut holes in my bed sheets! We don't have that documented in pictures but I wish we did... that was so funny. But my mom didn't think it was funny at the time! :)
