For those of you who are checking in on us...

{Cookie photo and recipe credits go to Dawn Finicane at Vanilla Sugar blog.}
I made a batch of these cookies tonight and ate some of the dough plus two cookies. For dinner. The kids ate an actual meal before they got their cookies, but I didn't get around to the dinner part. That's sort of how things are going around here right now.
Not bad.
But not really the way they should be.
Or how we wish things could be.
Having a newborn in the house is a challenge.
Having a fiesty, possibly ADD 2-year old in the house is a challenge.
Having a 9 year old in diapers and unable to speak is a challenge.
Having your challenged 9-year old in double-casts is even more challenging.

Trying to keep life "normal" for the other three who go to elementary and middle school is a challenge just because of all the other challenges.
I have to admit I feel like we're in over our heads most of the time. I also will admit that I realize things could be worse too. Much worse. Or should I say, more challenging.

It's not the end-of-the-world to eat delicious, fresh-baked big chewy cookies for dinner. It's not like I had a wasitline in the past 9 months anyway. =) I do sit and wonder what God could be trying to teach us in all of this right now. Maybe it is patience. Maybe it is to help us empathize with others who have needs and issues that seem unfair or overwhelming. Maybe it is a time in my life for me to just "be still and listen". I'm not sure what it's all about, but can tell you it is harder than I thought it would be. And I'm not just speaking about the physical challenges. I highly recommend the chocolate chip cookie recipe linked above. And our whole family appreciates those of you who keep checking in on us and lift up prayers for us too. If it weren't for the prayers, I probably wouldn't have gotten to eat dinner tonight, nor cookies. So, thanks for praying.
From the bottom of my heart. Thank you.

What's wrong with cookie dough for dinner? Or breakfast or lunch for that matter!I would consider the fact that you actually made cookies or dinner an achievement under the circumstances. Sending good vibes and thoughts all the way from Australia to all of you. xxx

Keeping you close in thought and prayer. My grandma used to always say..."this too shall pass" and you know what? It did!

The cookies sound wonderful! Chocolate therapy is always best, followed closely by coffee therapy:)

Wow, I can only imagine the challenges you feel! Honestly, I have a 3, 2, 1 year old and one on the way...and much of the time my life feels challenging, so I am sure you feel it all the more than me. I wouldn't trade mine for the world, but I would make it a little easier if I could. ;) Sorry you didn't get dinner, but I am happy you at least got some cookies! Chocolate tends to make a girl happy. ;)

And, there is nothing wrong with cookies for dinner. Sometimes I have cookies for breakfast and dinner! ;)

I'm still checking in regularly and praying for strength and grace....and applauding you for rejoicing in the littlest pleasures that come into a hard time --- like chocolate cookies.....like 'lilies in the valley', flowers in the deserts of life..

Thanks for the cookie recipe. I will definitely be trying it out soon.
Stay strong. God is with you. He knows what you can handle. He will guide, direct & help you.

Jodi, just wanted to tell you that you guys are doing GREAT and you are my heroes. I know it's not perfect, but you're still hanging in there and you're still looking unto Jesus, and you're still VERTICAL, for crying out loud! I know God is pleased with your faithfulness, even when you don't feel you are "doing it well." You and your family are in my prayers. May God hold you tightly in His grip.

Here's my thoughts on suspecting a 2 year old has ADD: No, he does not have ADD. He is too young to be diagnosed. He is TWO. He is vying for attention! Can you not see this? He is smack dab in the middle of children getting all the attention: An older sister in casts, and a brand new baby...Of COURSE he will want to run around, be energetic and try to get attention. Please do not medicate this little boy!!!
