The voice that made Jody who she is... live from the kitchen counter. Per the request of loyal reader Tom K., who said Chip should do a post, I have decided to let my views be heard. No this is not a takeover of the sight or the end of "Chick Talk", but a feeble attempt to get some oohs, ahs, tears, and cheers from Jody's fellow bloggers. In this post you'll learn a little about me (hubby-Chip), and my opinion of my wife.
I am little like a glass of red wine "Full Bodied with a touch of whimsy" (for those that are fans of the movie Forget Paris you recognize that line). My profession is General Manager and Director of Golf at Grand Haven Golf Club. I am a die hard fan of all Minnesota sports team especially that of Saint John's University, see www.gojohnnies.com.
I think my wife is wonderful, she puts up with me, which says alot. But she is also a great mother, and a creative personality. I am coming to terms with her blogging time, it keeps her from getting pregnant again. I also enjoy her scrapwork. Jody has a passion for creativity and with her blogging and scrapping she has seemed to find an outlet for it. It also allows me to click many more times on the remote because she is too preoccupied to tell me to knock it off (I haven't tried chewing my nails or sniffling while she is blogging to see if I can get away with that too).
Commentary of the day.
The other day I commented to Jody, as we were trying to come up with dinner ideas, "It sure would be nice to come home to a wife with a poodle skirt on and dinner on the table." This ideal would be a little like Pleasantville, with color and more television stations. It also reminded me of when Pastor Jim Mathis was talking about how amazed he is about how tough men of today have it during childbirth. Years ago all men had to do was wait in the lobby with a good book and watch television. (At this point Jody would tell the story of how I went to lunch and missed Ava's birth, but I digress). My point is, whatever happened to the good old days, before Women's Lib? A man could work, go bowling two nights a week, play golf on Saturday and watch football all day Sunday, and in return all he had to do was mow the lawn, shovel the snow, and take out the trash. When the concept of Utopia came to be this is probably what is sounded like.
In thinking of this since that time, I have come to realize that I have it pretty good today. So what if dinner is not waiting when I get home; I like to cook and go out to eat. I liked being a part of my childs birth, Ava notwithstanding. I also like that my wife has an opinion and the fact that when I call our home phone it is always busy because Jody is blogging. Most of all, I like the fact that my wife likes to cuddle. June Cleaver never cuddled with Ward on any episode I have ever seen, and I have seen them all. So, men enjoy your opinionated, liberated women; they are much more fun than June Cleaver ever was.

LOL!!!! Love that you found out how to prevent pregnancy. You must be wanting something really good for Christmas.;)
mary h.
I'm so glad to hear June Cleaver isn't your type - your life sounds so much more colorful the way it is! Thanks for hijacking the blog, it must have been hard to get the keyboard from your wife! :)
LOL. Love the preventing pregnancy comment. And I am sure that my husband would honestly agree with you whole-heartedly about it being better NOT having a "June Cleaver" wife, "IF" he wasn't the type of guy to just spew some smarty pants comment that would earn him a smack upside his head instead. ;P. LOL
all i have to say is
AMEN
Chip - You sound like a WINNER to me :0)
Wait back up a minute, if I recall from previous post there was a comment made on How at one time CHIP wanted a ton of children (not exact words of Jody's)and that Jody didnt want children... So this brings on the debate of blogging keeps her from getting pregnant! Enlightin us.... Give her more children if she wants them! She deserves the happiness they bring into her life.. Not bashing you Chip just making an observation or something to that nature! LOL!!! ANyway you sound great. To get on your wifes blog .... Most men would NOT do that! Glad Jody isnt like June Cleaver~ Although she seems to like cooking like her though LOL~ Love ya Jody ... and you too Chip!
Nice to meet you Chip...finally! I loved your commentary. You should hijack Nitty.Gritty more often. I want to know how your trip to Ireland went...that is my dream vacation. My Ireland fund is growing as I speak.
Thx Chip.........hey- why don't you get Jody DSL for Christmas? It is AWESOME, then you'll never know when she's blogging!!! and the time that is wasted while dialing up etc will be spent putting those delicious meals on the table!!!
I've been a "ghost" reader since May-ish and I enjoy your posts. It definitely kept me busy during some boring student work this summer... :)
But, I just HAD to comment after this post from Chip. I LOVED it. It really says a lot about you, the way he speaks of you, and the last paragraph made me want to jump up and cheer! There ARE good guys out there. He's lucky to have you and you're lucky to have him -- what a great combo!
Keep up the awesome posts -
"I am coming to terms with her blogging time, it keeps her from getting pregnant again."

just when i thought it couldn't get any more "real", you guys did it!
thanks! still lovin' my doses of nitty.gritty.
~~sending many hugs to your family here on earth and blowing kisses to heaven~~
Hi Chip, If you really love your wife you'll get her high speed ADSL. Not only will you have the phone line free, but her blogging will probably be faster - at least the loading up part.
She deserves it!
I'd say you still have it pretty good, running off to Ireland and all. Men are notorious whiners.
you are TOO cute Chip. . .almost as cute as your wife!!!! nice to hear from you! we know, you just wanted to share in jody's popularity in blogdom!!!!
Hey Chip,
We've heard so much about you, but Jodi didn't elaborate on what a GREAT sense of humour you have! I did a couple of belly laughs while I was reading your post...
It adds another facet to Jodi's views to hear the person closest to her give their view on life with Nitty Gritty.
Thanks for supporting her in what she does on this blog. We really appreciate her perspective!
Many OOOOHS, AAAAAHS,(happy) tears and CHEERS for Chip!
Loved it!
A fellow non-June Cleaver...Janna
I am appreciate that Chip wrote those very endearing things about his wife. He liked to take part in the cooking when he was young and now he still enjoys doing some of the cooking. (He didn't get that from his father.) He likes playing with his children, when he gets the chance. (He got that from his father. I was busy cooking.) And he is definitely a huge Minnesota sports fan and he definitely got that from his father and grandfather. ( I sew. And cook.)
I am proud that he wrote such a piece for the whole world to see.
Love you Chip,
Mom
DSL for JODY!
DSL for JODY!
That was all of us in BLOGDOM yelling...
DSL for JODY!
Come on Chip!
You know she's the best wife and mom...
and well, you know it will free her to even be a better wife and mom! She deserves it!
Yes! Yes! Yes! Now I feel a lot less like the lone husband cooling his heels in the ladies department at Kohl's!
Jody this was brave of you. Chip, this was GREAT of you. I feel like I know you (and therefore the whole Nitty Gritty setting) better. I've also watched every episode of "Leave it to Beaver," and I think you're right. I don't remember June Cleaver cuddling--she and Ward only did that "air kiss" thing. Hmmmm. Nitty Gritty as a sit-com... now there's a thought. A sit-com with meaning.
One last thought...
The need to write and have a creative outlet is very important for some people. I can relate. Finding the balance between living, loving and writing about it is a balancing act. Thanks for weighing in, Chip!
It ate my comments! I hate it when that happens!
So, it was about my idea for
Mr.Nitty.Gritty
to have a blog of his own!
Chip..my husband would love you as he's a "HUGE" Minnesota fan AND he plays golf!! :-)
I grew up watching "Leave It To Beaver" (I loved Tony Dow from afar) Even then women really weren't like June..at least my mom wasn't one who wore dresses like that around the house with high heels and a hair-do to match (oh I forgot the pearls) Don't be too hard on yourself for missing a birth...my husband didn't actually miss out but was one who sat in the waiting room to hear what the sex was. I envy the couple's of today, by the way. Keep on being a supportive husband and you will enjoy the years that you hae together once the kidlets leave the nest! Now is a precious time but so is every 'passage' of time! I pray that God will continue to bless your family through the testimony you all share with the rest of us!!
I am so excited to have Chip posting on this blog. I have heard so much about him and now I can really get to know him. The husband of Jody has to be a very special guy and I look forward to many more posts. You are a blessing indeed!
