Nitty.Gritty. sewing machine.

Thanks to my mother-in-law, Karen, I have had the opportunity to do some sewing. For about the last 7 years. I finally took that opportunity today. Not that I haven't appreciated the machine, nor that it hasn't been used {Grandma Karen uses it every time she visits me!}, but for me to use it for something besides sewing on paper or doing a little hem here or there is a big step!
Thanks to a talented blogger/knitter/sewer/baker online new friend of mine, Leslie, I was inspired to try making an apron. It's nearly finished...from start to finish in one day. If it turns out to be 'wearable' when I'm finished with it, I will post another picture here. =)
Hopefully you'll see me sporting my new apron soon!
Sew. What did you DO today? I know lots of you do projects. Do tell.

Oooo! That makes me want to get my sewing machine out! I could use some new window treatments. Unfortunately we spent the day cleaning out the basement due to lots of rain last night! We need some sun now!!

What cute fabrics! Looks like you've ironed and pinned so neatly! Can't wait to see the finished work, as I'm sure you'll do a great job.

My afternoon? Well, surprisingly, my whole family (all six of us) auditioned for parts in the play version of "Cheaper by the Dozen" which, our director told us, only has the title in common with the movie. The story is delightful, and based on a real guy, Mr. Gilbreth.

We'd not planned to audition, but decided to when we heard about it after church. We've never done this before. We won't know if any of us made it or not for three days. Hmmmm.

Sewing is my favorite way to spend the day...I sew for my granddaughters. I especially love making their coats. My sewing room is my haven away from the world.

I have thought of scrapping , but I do not think I could find the time....so this past week I made two jungle print skirts, one a gathered at the waist for my three year old and the other a wrap skirt...I could not find a pattern for the wrap so I made my own for the seven year old. Sewing allows me to be creative and I love it....thanks Jody for all the great posts that some days really keep me going...~~a grandma in Il

I've been wanting to sew an apron badly but I haven't followed a pattern since Home Ec in Highschool and I'm not telling you how long ago that was :)

I really want to make one though and after looking at the link you had and the links she had - I'm heading to HL this morning to look for some cool fabric and see what I can do with NO PATTERN - I'm a rebel, I just can't follow directions I guess.

In the meantime - no other projects going on here. Some random scrapping when I get a chance and some mother's day goodies for the MIL.

Can't wait to see your finished apron!

You are inspiring me! I bought cute fabric and a pattern for an apron a while back, but they have been sitting in my closet. Maybe that will be my May project!

The sight of your fabrics has me itching to bring out the machine. Though...a seamstress I am NOT. (I hear ya about the machine getting more of a workout on paper projects!) A couple of months ago I got into sewing headbands for my girls. I am not going to admit how long it takes me to complete one of these cute little items but I'm sure they are a super simple, quick project for someone with basic sewing skills. ;) Here is the free pattern... http://www.heatherbaileydesign.com/Headband.html I love that it only takes 1/8 yard per headband. Fun and cute! (And supposedly quick, LOL.)

okay, how cute is your little nitty.gritty.fortune.cookie?
way fun!

as for creative projecty things . . .
i finished painting some art on friday that will go into my guest bedroom (on my blog) . . .
and i had all of the pieces for a new scrap page laid out yesterday morning, with a scrap day in my mind when our out of town guests (who normally make so many plans with other friends in denver that we rarely get them for a whole day) suggested we all four (boys included) go to a spa!

well, what's a girl to do???
scrap page? facial?
scrap page? facial?

you can guess what the outcome to all of this was! :)
